  • How Tech Companies Can Prepare for the CEO Pay Ratio

How Tech Companies Can Prepare for the CEO Pay Ratio

Presentation
Silicon Valley Compensation Association
August 2017

The tech sector may receive more than its fair share of bold headlines as CEO Pay Ratio disclosures begin in 2018.

Bay Area publications are already beginning to speculate and take issue with pay disparity. Examples include:

  • “CEO Pay Ratio Casts New Spotlight on Bay Area Pay Disparity Issues” (San Francisco Chronicle)
  • “Not Everyone is a Software Engineer: Local Workforce Takes Issue With Median Employee Pay” (San Jose Mercury News)
  • “CEO Pay Levels in Silicon Valley Tower Above the Rest” (SFGate)

While mandatory disclosure of the ratio in 2018 proxies looks likely, companies who get started early on their calculations will have the advantage of time for developing appropriate communications and making outreach to stakeholders.

This recent presentation to the Silicon Valley Compensation Association offers a refresher course on the ruling and specific guidance on how companies can begin, if they haven’t already.
