Does your HR team have trouble finding pay information on emerging “hot” jobs in the workforce? Salary data on a specific job family, such as cyber security, can be difficult to find when dealing with a rapidly expanding job market and limited scope on its pay practices.
Pearl Meyer conducts a biannual Cyber Security Salary Survey to help understand base and bonus compensation as well as long-term incentive eligibility for cyber security professionals.
In 2015 we received invaluable feedback to our inaugural survey from 79 participating companies including Google, Target, and Lockheed Martin. Participants indicated that it was both difficult to hire and a challenge to retain employees in this critical job family.
The analysis also showed that turnover rates were increasing—an immediate concern because the demand for cyber security professionals appears to be growing more rapidly than the supply, with an estimate of more than 1.5 million unfilled positions by 2019. Companies will no doubt find it increasingly challenging to hire and retain employees in this niche industry without the proper compensation package.

We have launched our next Cyber Security salary survey and will have published results in the early fall timeframe. We look forward to comparing the similarities and possible differences that have occurred in this job market over the last two years.
About Pearl Meyer’s Cyber Security Survey
In 2015, major sponsors Sandia National Laboratories and MIT Lincoln Laboratory came to us for an initial project designed to understand base and incentive/bonus compensation as well as long-term incentive eligibility for cyber security professionals. We also looked at basic policies and practices associated with the attraction and retention for this job class.
